Albany, NY (May 21, 2019) – On Tuesday, May 21st, three sexual abuse survivors went public as their attorneys released a list of more than 80 Albany Diocese clergy members who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse. The list has been published online and includes 83 members of the clergy who have either been charged or involved in lawsuits for their horrendous crimes.
According to the victims who spoke today, many of them were told by their abusers that they were the only ones at the time of their abuse. The things they were told by the predators who preyed upon them were blatantly untrue, and the main motive for coming forward is an attempt to stop any ongoing or future abuse against other children.
The survivors wish to encourage any other children who may be enduring similar abuse to come forward. The list that came out today names 83 Albany Catholic Diocese clergymen and dates back as far as the 1940s.
Sexual Abuse in New York
We, first and foremost, wish to express our sincere sympathy for the countless victims of child sex abuse at the hands of people in places of power. Although there is absolutely no amount of financial compensation that can expunge the atrocious experience of child sex abuse, it is important to understand that great strides are being made to protect victims. The New York Child Victim’s Act is a substantial move in the right direction, as it grants victims as much time as they need to heal while guaranteeing them the right to hold their abuser(s) accountable.
At Hach & Rose, our compassionate attorneys realize that there is nearly nothing as overwhelming and immoral as the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse of innocent children who are mostly incapable of defending themselves. We firmly believe that anyone who exploits a child in any manner such as by physical/sexual contact, voyeurism, child pornography, or any other way should be held liable for their disgraceful actions, and we are here for you 24/7 to answer any questions you may have at this time.
If you or a loved one has suffered from sexual abuse as a child, and you feel as though you are ready to come forward, please contact our New York sexual abuse attorneys at 212-779-0057 and let us go to work obtaining the compensation you deserve.
