Utica, NY (March 9, 2019) – A firefighter was reportedly injured in a fire that occurred at the Remet Manufacturing Plant. Multiple 911 calls were called in due to the fire.
Several crews were called to the Utica/Frankfort line on Turner Road due to the fire. More than three dozen firefighters were at the scene when the fire was at its worst and one firefighter became injured in the incident.
The incident took place just after 7:00 p.m. at the plant and was an active scene for quite some time. The building produces paraffin wax, which made for a potentially dangerous situation for all involved.
Because the fire grew so large in such a short amount of time, firefighters were called out almost immediately as they started going inside. They had to then use a trench cut to cut a hole in the roof and attempt to control where the fire was going.
Many firefighters were there almost the entire day due to the severity of the fire. Police are trying to find out what initially started the fire.
