Airmont, NY (March 5, 2019) – Firefighters accompanied police to a home on Bolger Lane in response to a call concerning a woman and her two daughters who were stated to be unconscious due to an exposure to a toxic substance. The incident was reported to have happened around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5th.
According to authorities, the woman’s husband and father of the two girls, Assaad Gerges, had left the residence at around 5:00 a.m. and returned to find his wife, 54-year-old Michelle, and his daughters, 16-year-old Emily and 14-year-old Janet, unconscious for unknown reasons. Medical crews were called and quickly transported all three victims to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. One victim was later taken to Jacobi Medical Center for additional treatment.
Investigators found carbon monoxide levels as high as 1,100 parts per million in the basement of the home (exposure to carbon monoxide becomes toxic around 100 ppm), and the conditions of the victims are not known at this time. The investigation is ongoing as the source of the leak has not been identified.
